Advanced Wound Care Products & Treatments

  • Antimicrobial Dressings
      • One of our favorite approaches to wound care involves using antimicrobial dressings. These are ideal for long-term wounds that just won’t heal on their own. Manufacturers have developed antimicrobial dressings that leverage the healing properties of substances like colloidal silver, honey, povidone-iodine, biguanide, to name a few. These can also make a tremendous difference in eliminating infection symptoms.
  • Cellular & Tissue-Based Therapies (CTPs)
      • There are several ways to utilize cells (stem cells, fibroblasts, keratinocytes, etc.) to promote healing. These innovative methods can combat inflammation, and create substitutes for every skin layer: epidermal substitutes, dermal substitutes, and dermoepidermal substitutes. You may encounter other terms like “bio-engineered skin” or “acellular collagen matrices,” which are further examples of how to replace organic skin structures naturally.
  • Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
      • This procedure works by providing subatmospheric pressure onto the wound sight to treat it with more of a suction force rather than simply applying pressure. Another name for this is “vacuum-assisted closure.” This is a lucrative solution for patients who cannot withstand long bouts of bandage changing and other irritations.
  • Electrical Stimulation
      • Believe it or not, the human body responds well to electrical stimulation of various forms, even for wound-healing. For years, scientists have researched ways to harness direct currents, alternating currents, and both high/low-density pulsating currents to stimulate cellular activity and rejuvenate skin. We’ve arrived at the point where certain electrical stimulation (not the kind that “shocks” you, per se) can help heal wounds, limit infection, and even foster stronger immunity.

These are a mere handful of ways doctors and scientists are changing the landscape of wound care and skin rehabilitation. Stay tuned to find out more about the latest developments in the ever-evolving field.
