SMP Hydrocolloid Formulations:

SMP's hydrocolloid dressing adhesive formulations are composed of natural occurring substances that turn into to a gel when they come into contact with wound fluid. These particles are embedded in an inert polymer matrix that provides the desired level of cohesiveness required to prevent leaving any residue in the wound.

The outer most layer of the dressing is covered by a polyurethane film or foam that have a low coefficient of friction. This outer cover reinforces the dressing's barrier properties and helps to reduce the impact of friction and shear which contribute to ulcer formation.

When placed over a wound, these dressings create a moist environment. This environment helps to speed the natural healing process, reduce pain, facilitate the removal of debris and protect against bacteria and other external contaminants.

On the Clinical Level...

Hydrocolloid wound dressings have been clinically shown to:

  1. Create an environment that fosters the body's natural healing process, resulting in faster healing when compared to conventional gauze dressings.
  2. Facilitate the removal of necrotic tissue and debris through the process of autolytic debridement
  3. Reduce pain and discomfort during dressing removal and application
  4. Reduce the risk of wound infection by providing an effective barrier to external contamination and bacteria.
