Dr. Walter F. Leise III has held a number of diverse leadership positions around the world over the last twenty years and he established SMP as a tangible early-stage company. He has spent the last eight years in leadership roles within Abbott's Diagnostic Division and Abbott's Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development Division. He is a decorated veteran whose military career further developed his global perspective and leadership skills. He has earned several degrees, all with honors, including associate degrees in applied science and chemical and biochemical technology from the College of Lake County. He has earned a BS in biochemistry from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Chicago. He has expanded on his business acumen by completing an MBA from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
Mr. Walter Leise Sr. has over 35 years of experience in the management of product and process design in ostomy and wound care. Most recently, he was Vice President of Technical Operations for Amparo Medical. He was responsible for developing, installing, and certifying its production plant for global operations. He was also manager of the Product and Device Design Group at ConvaTec, a division of Bristol-Myers Squibb, during its most productive, profitable, and imaginative period. In 1992, he became Sr. Project Manager for Ostomy Products at Hollister, Inc. He holds over 25 US and global patents on medical devices and process improvements.
Mr. Richard Lovell, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, began his career as a clinical instructor in GI and GU oncology and Director of the Enterostomal Therapy Educational Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He has over 25 years of experience in various aspects of the wound care and ostomy business. He has served in sales, sales management, professional services, product management, business development, and global marketing at ConvaTec, a Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. He is the inventor of ConvaTec's successful DuoDerm signal dressing. Currently, he is Director of Marketing and Sales Strategies at a Sarasota competitor on the east coast. He received his BS from Cornell University and his master's degree from New York University.
Mr. Denis Keyes has 35 years of international experience in manufacturing, engineering, and product development. He began his career at ER Squibb, where he managed the mechanical operation for their Sterile Packaging Operation. In 1984, he transferred to the ConvaTec division, where he started as R&D Engineering Manager and rose to Associate Director of Engineering. From 1995 to 1998, he was Senior Advisor at ConvaTec, leading a small development group in the design and development of new products and process technology for wound care and ostomy products. He holds an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a BS in mathematics from Manhattan College in New York.
